What is the Common Application?
When it comes time to apply for college, students and parents alike are often taken by surprise at the amount of information required to complete the application process. Imagine multiplying that by many colleges in different states?
The Common Application seeks to streamline the process for students and colleges by being a one-stop shop. The Common Application partners with a diverse selection of more than 800 institutions across the country. So, one application literally gives you access to the admissions offices of hundreds of colleges.
Through the Common Application each student creates their own account to add and manage information used for each school they select. The online account allows the student to keep track of each school’s specific requirements and deadlines within the application process.
At the very least each school will require:
- A high school transcript
- A list of extracurricular activities, both in school and outside of school
- Test scores and dates for SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and/or the ACT
- Parent/Guardian information, such as employment, occupation and education
